This week one of our lessons was about a Gov. Spotswood who was Governor of Virginia about 400 years ago. At that time they did not know what was on the other side of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Some of the people feared there would be big wild animals and some thought just water. So he set out with several people to find out what was on the other side. What they found was a beautiful valley with a river going through it. Our project was to make this on paper. So...we made soil from grits (very sandy) and we used mini marshmallows for the mountains and painted them blue of course. It was a very rough draft of what it is like but it makes it a lot easier to remember the story and Tanek loves painting, and gluing. I love having this table out on the porch for our messy projects.

Upward Soccer
I absolutely love watching kids play. They give it all they have even they may not know what the game is all about. They just have fun. In Upward Soccer the kids just have a ball. They get plenty of exercise running up and down that field. It is so much fun to watch. These were taken a couple weeks ago but I couldn't post them because my computor was in the shop and then it was time to post the Easter pictures. I look forward to watching the rest of the games.

Happy Easter- 2011
We had a very nice Easter. We went to church in the morning and then had dinner with the family and an Easter egg hunt and bubbles with Tanek. While I wish my grand-daughters could have been here I did get to have a wonderful week with them before Easter. Tanek had a great time finding all the eggs his daddy hid for him.

Easter at the Library
This past Wednesday at "Story time" at the Library they had an Easter egg hunt. Tanek was proud to be able to take his cousin Emily to it and they had a good time. They had the Library all decorated for Easter and then had the Easter egg hunt outside after story time and doing the hokey pokey.

Spring Break with the Grands & Family
On Sunday April 17, after a two day drive through bumper to bumper traffic, and having to take cover in North Carolina between two tornadoes Heather and our 3 grand-daughters and a good friend of theirs Dellynne finally made it here. The first thing the kids wanted to do was get in the pool . The weather was beautiful and warm, but the water still quite chilly.
The girls & Tanek love swimming and had a great time. Our Hannah is a little fish in the pool.
Lots of fun!
Taking time out in the sun to try to warm up before getting back in. Emily and Tanek had a great time together.
Shortly after Heather and family arrived Karen and Casey surprised her. They had flown in from Minnesota to spend a few days. They were very happy to enjoy the warm sunshine. Below is Hannah, Kirsten and Casey enjoying the pool.
We decided to go spend the night at the beach . We stayed in Villano beach and that evening we saw the most beautiful moon. You can see that on Karen's blog and Heather will have some pictures of it up soon. I love the ocean. It is just so majestic.

Tanek and Casey were enjoying the water.
And sweet Emily loved it too.
We spent the night at Villano beach and the sand there is all shells. Everyone had fun looking for sharks teeth. Hannah found several.

Tanek and Dellynne
Emily had such fancy feet with all the little shells adorning her feet.
Such fun to dig in the sand.

This is what the sand looks like on Villano Beach which is actually just crushed shells.
Such fun in the fountains at St. Augustine Beach.

Love the picture of the pier in the background.

We ended the day with dinner at Barnacle Bills. Heathers other sister Beth joined us at the beach. Here is the whole crowd.
Heather, Dellynne, Kirsten, Casey, Emily, Beth, Jackie, Karen Stephanie, Tanek and Hannah. We had a lot of fun at dinner too. It was a really nice beach outing. I can tell you that our "northern" family enjoyed the very warm sunshine of Florida where they all used to live. Karen and Casey had to go back home on Tuesday to more snow in Minnesota.
Tanek and Casey were enjoying the water.
